This is a mook featuring Shunji Iwai.

I think this is the most detailed discussed book of Shunji Iwai's film.Maybe. Especially about "All About Lily Chou-Chou" is frequently discussed.

All About Lily Chou-Chou is a Japanese movie shown in 2001. Little bit gloomy, feel like late 90s atmosphere. In late 90s in Japan, there are a lot of dark, gloomy, inner, psycho cultural piece.

When I googled All About Lily Chou-Chou or serial experiments lain or stuffs like that, there were many English discussed website very much than I thought. Few few people liked things like that all over the world.

I like Noboru Shinoda (Cinematographer of All About Lily Chou-Chou), but he's gone in 2004. He had shoot Iwai's film until then. I like "undo" the most. After he's gone, Iwai's film lost something big at vision, image of film.

TALKING HEADS(japanese magazine)

I like niche magazine. I found this magazine when cleaning my room.
This is a japanese magazine called "TALKING HEADS". It deals with niche culture of Japan(mainly Japan). This is a issue of decadance.

Its 18th page, I found a name "Joel-Peter Witkin". The page is a little bit grotesque so I can't post the page though. I didn't know his name so I google it, then, wow, nice. I like square decent format. Strong content plus decent quiet format.

By the way, the name was issued in a interview of japanese painter "Kijimekka". He was in taking a picture, but he found Joel-Peter Witkin and thought "unbeatable", "It can't be done if it were not for money and ability to take action", and quit camera.At other page, Shion Sono talks about Joris-Karl Huysmans.

I think TALKING HEADS is quite interesting for who's identity is cultural driven. One of a nice cultural magazine in Japan.

5 point of "How to compose Japanese pop song"

Nowadays, Japanese commercial pop songs are musically sluggish. Maybe, from around 2005.  Really long time.

Recent(from around 2005 to now, 2016) Japanese pop songs have similar structure.  You use this structure, then, it will be Japanese pop( or Anime) song(。◔‿◔。)

■How to make Japanese nowadays pop song

well, please listen typical Japanese pop song, and read below Japanese most typical format.

1, use ABC format
In Japan, when express form of song, we use "A melo, B melo, Sabi(C)" words. It means, maybe "verse, bridge, chorus, what(?)". Almost all of recent Japanese pop song use below format.

1st [Intro] - [verse] - [bridge] - [chorus]
2nd [interlude] - [verse] - [bridge] - [chorus]
3rd [interlude] - (bridge) -[small chorus] - [big chorus] - [end]


2, in verse, start with "I" chord,
"I" is musical term. "I" is, in key of C, "C" chord. In key of G, "G" chord is "I".Almost all of recent Japanese pop song start with I chord at the top of verse.


3, in bridge, start with sub dominant chord, and end with long melody to "jump to chorus" melody with dominant chord.
"start with sub dominant chord" is easy, and easy to write. long melody to "jump to chorus" melody is... somehow difficult to express...

For example, like below!
G~~~~~~~~~, CDEG!(and go to chorus) or
D~~~~~~~~~, GABCE(and go to chorus)
Sorry, please tell! 1st "long", 2nd "stop", 3rd "machine gun"!(chord is V chord)
This is called "Jump ramp to chorus" in Japan. A Japanese famous musician Seiji Kameda(basist of "Tokyo Jihen(東京事変)") begun to use.
(only "long melody" (less "jump to chorus melody") is also ok. both are ok. both are frequent)


4, in Chorus, use 4536 , and end with "I" melody.
4536 is IV-V-IIIm-VIm chord progression( or IV - IV/V - I - VIm). This progression is f**king popular in Japan and everybody use like machine-gun.VI instead of VIm is also well used. well well used.
At the last, please use I at melody, and chord.


5, Totally, use classical polite chord progression.
Japanese commercial pop song is musically simple. very simple, and classical. Like old American 50s-early 60s pop songs.
